A coast to coast walk: St. Bees Head to Robin Hood's Bay : a pictorial guide by A.Wainwright.

This is a book for walkers with a liking for long distance 'unofficial' expeditions.

It describes a journey on foot from St. Bees Head on the Irish sea to Robin Hood's Bay on the North sea, the route crossing the Lake District and the Pennines into swaledale and ending with a traverse of the Cleveland Hills and the North York Moors. It links three National Parks.

The length of the walk is 190 miles, all of it on rights of way or through areas of open access, and an average walker will do it in two weeks.

The arrangement of the book is similar to that of the author's Pennine Way Companion.

It contains:

• a continuous map of the route on a scale of 2 inches = 1 mile;

• a running commentary;

• 200 drawings and diagrams;

• a skeleton log of the route for the personal use of walkers;

• suggestions for those who are unable to undertake the walk as a single expedition.

The book is printed entirely from photographed reproductions of the original manuscript.
