A Manual of Technical Plumbing and Sanitary Science by S Barlow Bennett.
PREFACE.
In placing this book before the public the Author has attempted to collect and prepare in a straight-forward manner the chief items of interest and importance that should be known by all plumbers.
As a student and teacher he has often found that one of the difficulties which beset the path of the student plumber is, that to obtain the technical knowledge his trade requires, means a considerable expenditure in books, and even when these books are obtained, he again finds a difficulty in picking out the special points appertaining to the plumbing craft.
The complaint of the examining bodies is " that the questions on elementary science have either been avoided altogether or answered indifferently," and again " that the failures are directly attributable to want of knowledgt of the subject matter of the examination."
To overcome these difficulties has been the author's ambition by providing the student plumber with a book that will help in an elementary way and at a moderate cost.
The chapters on General Science and Materials used by plumbers have been explained in as simple language as possible with the idea that the student who wishes to obtain further knowledge in these subjects could purchase books or attend classes specially suited for that purpose.
