It is a continual Astonishment to me that Hodge and His Masters should have remained so little known. It only narrowly misses being the best book Richard Jeffries wrote, and by any standards it is a fine and notable piece of work. Yet to the general reader, it is practically unknown, even those who would call themselves Jeffreys enthusiasts rarely no more about it than its title……….
