Winston Churchill's first biography was of his father, Lord Randolph (1849-95). He had a brief spell as Leader of the House of Commons and Chancellor of the Exchequer in Lord Salisbury's second administration during 1886. Winston Churchill used most of his fathers papers when writing this book and showed that Randolph underachieved in his political career.
