Master Mason Hawes of Occold, Suffolk & John Hore Master Carpenter of Diss. A Tribute to Two Fifteenth Century Master Craftsmen, by Birkin Haward

This concise history is a tribute to the work of Hawes of Occold (working from c.1410 to 1440) and John Hore carpenter of Diss in 1434, two master stone masons from Suffolk. In this study Birkin Haward looks at some of the principal traits of these masons including discussions of arcade piers, window traceries and roofs, before focusing on particular examples of churches where their particular style of work is evident: Bardwell, Bildeston, Debenham, Hengrave, Higham, Otley, Palgrave, Wickham Skeith and Wingfield. Includes many photographs and drawings.

This vintage Book was Published by the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History 2000 and is a softback published in an edition of 300 copies and therefore a rare copy.
