Morganiae Archaiographia Is the first historical and topographical account to be written of any welsh county. It's author, Rice Merrick was an Elizabethan landed gentleman and lawyer who lived in Cotterell near Cardiff. He began to write this description of his native county and its history in 1578, leaving it unfinished at his death. The original manuscript is lost. This new addition collates 6 surviving copies in an attempt to reconstruct Merricks text. As a result of this addition is fuller, more accurate, and more readable than either of the previous two published versions of Merrick, both of which were based on a single, very corrupt and incomplete manuscript.
