Selected Poems of Byron Edited by Robin Skelton.

Byron was alone amongst the Romantic poets in that his work does not generally appear to the best advantage in his shorter lyrics. Any selection of his work must therefore, in order to do justice to him, contain considerable sections from his longer poems, which are almost novels in verse.

This selection contains the entire first canto of Don Juan, which gives perhaps the best representation of Byron's many-sided genius. Also reproduced in their entirety are The Vision of Judgement, The Siege of Corinth and The Prisoner of Chillon, together with a long passage from Childe Harold's Pilgrimage. There is also a selection of shorter passages from some of the other full-length poems, together with the best lyrics.

Professor Skelton has supplied a most helpful and provocative introduction, together with notes on difficulties in the text.
