The Buildings of England-Nottinghamshire by Nikolaus Pevsner.
The series of which this volume is the second is intended to continue until all the counties of England are covered. Its historic range reaches from prehistoric times to the present day. It gives full particulars of the architectural features of all ecclesiastical, public and domestic buildings of interest in each town and village of the county concerned, and of the furnishings of churches, including plate and other artistic treasures. It is more detailed and places greater emphasis on aesthetic appreciation than any other existing guide. A general architectural introduction in each volume deals with the architectural history of the county, and there is a large section of illustrations.
The author, Dr Nikolaus Pevsner, is Slade Professor of Fine Art at Cambridge, and one of the Editors of the Architectural Review.
