The Devil's Dictionary is a satirical dictionary. Satire is using sarcasm and ridicule to expose or denounce human folly. The Devil's Dictionary comprises over one thousand words that poke fun at and criticize politics, religion, professions, and human practices. Written by American journalist Ambrose Bierce, it consists of common words followed by humorous and satirical definitions. The lexicon was written over three decades as a series of installments for magazines and newspapers.
