Report of an inquiry in Wolverhampton published for the Trustees of The Nuffield Foundation.

The Survey Committee of the Nuffield Foundation on the Problems of Ageing and the Care of Old People, under the Chairmanship of Mr. B. Seebohm Rowntree, published its report in 1947 under the title of Old People. That report has been read and quoted widely and its findings have greatly influenced plans for the care of the aged. In Wolverhampton, which was one of the towns covered by the survey. Dr. J. H. Sheldon, Director of Medicine, the Royal Hospital, Wolverhampton, made a medical survey of the same sample of old people. A short account of his findings was given at the International Congress of Physicians in London in September 1947 but this book of over two hundred pages sets out in some detail Dr. Sheldon's results. It includes not only monographic information but many statistical tables and interpretations.
