Turner envisaged a series of paintings of George the Fourths visit to Edinburgh but this did not materialise. But two sketchbooks did survive. In his study of the sketchbooks, Finley has managed to reconstruct much of Turners intentions for the Royal Progress, identify many of the subjects, and to associate the book with three Turner watercolours and four oils.
