Raymond H Hayes was a British archaeologist, writing mostly about the North Yorkshire Moors region. Born in York, he later moved as a child to Hutton-le-Hole with his family. His father was a professional photographer, to whom Hayes served as an apprentice after leaving school. He photographed many archaeological excavations in North Yorkshire, and was awarded an MBE for his services to archaeology.
