"Harold the Dauntless" represents Sir Walter Scott's foray into the realm of romantic narrative poetry. Penned in 1817, this work marked the culmination of his extended series of narrative verse compositions. Within its verses, the poem artfully intertwines elements drawn from popular English legends and folk tales, infusing them with dramatic themes.

The tale within recounts the adventurous endeavors and profound spiritual odyssey of a knight errant named Harold, who harbors doubts about his path. Harold, hailing from the lineage of Danish Count Witikind, embarks on a quest to reclaim his lost lands and find a suitable spouse. Scott, the author, characterized this narrative as "a peculiar, unpolished tale." Its roots can be traced back to the rich reservoir of Old Norse sagas, which found a prominent place in his well-stocked library.

This book is a very rare first edition dated 1817 but is only in a fair to poor condition which is reflected in the price.
